MagpieNest is devoted to stylish, modern jewellery handmade with silver and gold. All items are
made by me, Machi de Waard. My two favourite artistic movements - minimalism and abstract expressionism,
influence my work. Minimalism informs my pieces with strong, clean lines. Abstract expressionism inspires
me to take advantage of spontaneous designs arising in the studio. In particular, I like to focus on a single
design idea and work with it to develop a unified series. This year, I am Jeweller in Residence at South Hill Park Arts Centre
in Bracknell.
I have been making jewellery for as long as I can remember and started working with silver and gold
five years ago. Working under the name MagpieNest, I have been a full time jeweller since early 2007.
I have shown work at galleries and exhibitions and am active in the jewellery community in the
Berkshire, UK area. I have also done commissioned pieces,
including several wedding and engagement rings.
